The 13th National Congress on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics will be held from 6th to 10th September 2017 in Sofia at the Institute of Mechanics – Campus I of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The Institute of Mechanics is located to the south-east of the center of the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
Campus I of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences harbors more than half of the institutes of the Academy.

Access to the venue

The Institute of Mechanics is at a 10-min driving distance from the center of Sofia city and is in walking distance from several conveniently located hotels. It is adjacent to boulevard “Shipchenski prohod” with bus and tram lines connecting it to other parts of the city, and it is also not far from the "Joliot Curie" station on the Sofia Metro Line 1 (15 min walk) and from bus stop "Hotel Pliska" (5 min walk).


Arriving from the airport by public transportation

   Route 1Bus line 84 connects Sofia airport (both Terminals 1 and 2) with the center of the city. To get to the venue, please get off at bus stop "Hotel Pliska" (13 bus stops on the route), then walk for ~5 min to the Institute of Mechanics.

   Route 2: Sofia Metro Line 1 (only from Terminal 2) connects the airport with the rest of the city. To get to the venue, please get off at  "Joliot Curie" station, then walk for ~15 min to the Institute of Mechanics.


Arriving from the airport by taxi

The airport is situated at about 10-15 minutes driving distance from the Institute of Mechanics depending on traffic conditions. We strongly recommend ordering a taxi ride at the desk of the taxi company “OK Supertrans” (, which is in the Airport arrivals hall. You will be directed to a taxi by the person from the desk. The cost in Sofia is about 0.80 lev/km (0.40 EUR/km) daytime rate and about 0.90 lev/km (0.45 EUR/km) nighttime rate plus some initial costs. To avoid improper charges when ordering a taxi, please look carefully at the prices posted on the front window of the cab.
